And when the children of Ammon fought with Israel, the [a]Elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob.

And they said unto Jephthah, Come and be our captain, that we may fight [b]with the children of Ammon.

Jephthah then answered the Elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and [c]expel me out of my father’s house? how then come you unto me now in time of your tribulation?
